Do you have any human tissue (blood, body fluids, frozen tissue, slides, wax blocks or bones) that the Human Tissue Management Group (HTMG) doesn’t know about?
The University of Nottingham is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority for oversight of the use of human tissues for teaching and research.
In addition to covering human tissues such as blood, urine, saliva and samples of solid tissues such as frozen tissue, microscope slides or wax blocks, the holding of human bones also comes under the Act.
The Act is not intended to cover collections of DNA or cell lines derived from human tissues.
Those using human tissues anywhere in the University, including simply storing human tissues, are required to have such material under the oversight of the Human Tissue Act.
Within the University several licensed premises have already been defined under the Human Tissue Act and a Person Designate appointed to oversee local use of human material.
ACTION REQUIRED
If you are storing or using human tissues without an active (current) NRES ethical approval in place and you are not in premises already licensed under the Human Tissue Act, please email kate.shepherd@nottingham.ac.uk to check if your work or holdings needs to be brought under the license.
